Summer signing Romulo toasted his first Serie A start for the Bianconeri by contributing to this afternoon’s resounding 7-0 triumph over Parma at Juventus Stadium.

The versatile midfielder, who joined from Hellas Verona in August, was handed the opportunity to gain a useful 90 minutes under his belt following a long injury layoff, passing the test with flying colours.

Speaking to the media after the game, Romulo: “I think I put in a good performance. Obviously I’m still not yet at peak fitness after a lengthy period on the sidelines. It’s been a long time since I last started a game. Things went well, though, and I hope I can keep it up.

Romulo looked comfortable in a familiar position and says an understanding forged with Paul Pogba helped Juventus to find a way in behind the visitors.

“Allegri asked me to play in the same role I did with Hellas Verona, as a narrow midfielder. We spoke with Pogba before the game and agreed to swap over during the match to create confusion in the Gialloblu ranks. This was something we did well.”

The 27-year-old hopes a prolonged run of games could strengthen the case for a return to the international fold after an injury shattered his aspirations of making Italy’s World Cup squad in the summer.

“I want to get back into the national setup. It’s a dream and I’ll do everything I can to make it happen. It also depends on Conte’s decisions, but I’ll give it all I’ve got.”
