The Italian-Brazilian dead ball specialist arrives off the back of an impressive Serie A campaign with Hellas Verona

Brazilians have always found Serie A to be a hub of creativity in which they can harness their abilities.

The Bianconeri’s latest signing, Romulo, is the newest star to garner many an admirer after having contributed to Hellas Verona’s excellent season back in the big time.

Born in Pelotas, Brazil on 22 May 1987, Romulo, who is also an Italian citizen through ancestry, has predominately played as a central midfielder but can also fill in at right-back.

Romulo spent his youth career at Caxias before flitting between various Brazilian teams including Juventude (his first professional side) and Cruzeiro.

On the back of a loan spell at Atletico Paranaense in which first-team opportunities were hard to come by, Serie A and Fiorentina came calling to give him a new lease of life. The midfielder played 18 months in Florence, scoring twice in 30 appearances for the club.

However, it was at Hellas Verona where Romulo made his presence felt. In his only season with the Gialloblu, he boasted impressive statistics, notching six goals and making eight in 32 matches.

Impressed by his debut season, the Verona-based outfit bought out the remaining 50 per cent of his registration from Fiorentina and signed the 27-year-old to a permanent deal in July of this year.

On the international stage, Romulo is currently uncapped but was recently called up for the Italian national side’s preliminary 30 man shortlist for the World Cup in Brazil.

Aside from his versatility to play in two key areas of the pitch, Romulo is a dead-ball specialist and possesses excellent dribbling ability.

Coupled with the addition of Roberto Pereyra, Massimiliano Allegri now possesses two versatile midfielders who will only further strengthen a squad hungry for a fourth consecutive Scudetto title.
