Arturo Vidal played 90 minutes as Chile booked their place in the Copa America final for the first time in 28 years after overcoming 10-man Peru 2-1 in Monday’s semi-final at the Estadio Nacional.

La Blanquirroja defender Carlos Zambrano was given his marching orders for catching Charles Aranguiz in the back with a high boot before Eduardo Vargas gave the tournament hosts a half-time lead when he slotted in from close range.

However, Peru bounced back on the hour mark, Gary Medel getting his bearings wrong as he turned a cross into his own net past Claudio Bravo to set up a cracking final 30 minutes.

But a Vargas 25-yard thunderbolt just four minutes later, his second goal of the contest, allowed Chile to deservedly advance to Saturday’s final in Santiago where they’ll face the winner of Argentina or Paraguay who play this evening.
