Fabio Grosso believes his Primavera side have what it takes to launch a convincing title challenge when they return to championship action with next weekend’s away trip to Spezia.

Last week’s 4-0 home demolition of Sassuolo means the young Bianconeri sit in third place, four points shy of frontrunners Fiorentina, who they meet the following week in a Pool A top of the table clash.

Speaking to JTv in an exclusive interview, the former Juve wing-back said: “(Last week’s) was a good performance from the boys, we tackled the match with the right spirit and desire to overcome our opponents.

“When we cross the white line with that approach we’ve got the quality to produce results. Sassuolo were ahead of us in the table, but we showed ourselves to be the superior side. As in every game errors were made, but these were outweighed by the positives.”

Such convincing displays as the one shown in Reggio Emilia last time out has the 37-year old in no doubt as to the qualities of his young charges and is looking for similar showings in the future, especially away from home.

“I hope we can replicate our home displays on the road, taking the game to our opponents. It will be a decent test against Spezia."

Turning attentions to the tantalizing tie with front runners Fiorentina the following week, Grosso is hopeful that the Bianconeri will still be in touch in two weeks’ time.

He concluded: “We’ve got what it takes to be out in front, but we’re not quite there as it stands. We’ll have the opportunity to edge closer when we face Fiorentina, no doubt about it.”
