Gigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini yesterday evening joined Juventus Museum president Paolo Garimberti in Brussels to place a bouquet of flowers in front of a commemorative plaque honouring the 39 innocent people who tragically lost their lives during the Heysel Stadium disaster on 29 May 1985.

Also present were the Azzurri squad, Mariella Scirea, Andrea Llorentini and FIGC duo Carlo Tavecchio and CEO Michela, who confirmed the retirement of the country’s number 39 shirt in memory of the victims.

The tributes will continue this evening during Belgium’s friendly with Italy, when a message will be broadcast as the teams take to the pitch and in the 39th minute, the name of each victim will be displayed on the stadium’s big screen.
