Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri put things into perspective as he was interviewed pitchside after goals from Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus swung this evening’s entertaining encounter in Borussia Dortmund’s favour in St. Gallen.

Speaking to Sky, he began: “We never like losing but today was all about getting back into the swing of things and getting game time under our belts. Dortmund have played a lot of football already this summer and that showed today.

“We missed a couple of good chances and could have moved the ball around slightly better but overall the important thing was to come out of the game injury-free before the Super Cup in Shanghai.”

The Tuscan set out his team in a 4-3-1-2 formation with summer arrival Paulo Dybala supporting fellow new signing Mario Mandzukic and Spaniard Alvaro Morata in attack.

Allegri was pleased with what he saw from his new look frontline but hinted there was still one final piece of the jigsaw to be inserted before the new campaign kicks off in earnest.

Juventus’ first pre-season performance left their coach with reason to be optimistic ahead of their Super Cup meeting with Lazio on Saturday 8 August as he finished by outlining his expectations for the coming term.

“We want to still be fighting on all fronts come March. We’re introducing a lot of new, young players and it’s not a straightforward task. Today we showed that we can do it and I don’t see any reason why we won’t achieve what we want this year.”
