The three goals scored and as many points gained will steal the headlines, but Massimiliano Allegri was especially happy with the way in which his men claimed what was ultimately a convincing win against Palermo on Sunday evening.

Speaking to journalists after his side’s fourth straight league win, the 48-year-old began: “The boys played very well, particularly in terms of all the energy they put into the performance. We might have taken the lead in the first half, but then we scored those three great goals after the break.

“We prepared for this match on Friday and the players are quick learners, which is very important. The team has made some notable steps forward of late. We’ve stepped up physically, we’re using the ball much better and we’re more compact.”

The Tuscan tactician reserved special praise for Stefano Sturaro, who capped off a fine display with a maiden goal in 2015/16.

“Stefano put in a great shift in midfield, he plays with immense intensity and he has also improved on his technical ability.”

Meanwhile on Alvaro Morata, Allegri commented: “In contrast to last season, when he was behind Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente in the pecking order, Alvaro is one of our first-choice strikers this year. His assist for Simone Zaza’s strike was a sign of what he is capable of and he’ll become a key player for Juventus.”

Turning his attentions to next Friday’s fixture against Lazio, Allegri said: “It’s a tough match against a direct rival. We’ll enjoy this victory right now but next week we’ll be focusing all our energies on the contest with the Biancocelesti.”
