The defender reflects on what might have been in this evening’s 0-0 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach: “A win tonight would have represented another important step towards the last 16. Now we have to keep fighting and stay alert”

Andrea Barzagli says the Bianconeri will have to keep battling to ensure their Champions League knockout stage qualification hopes remain firmly in their hands.

Three points from tonight’s Group D game would have placed Massimiliano Allegri’s men in a strong position to sew up a last 16 place with three games remaining, but an organised Borussia Monchengladbach display, coupled with a lack of cutting edge in the final third, meant just one would have to do for Juventus.

Reflecting on the encounter, the Tuscan defender said: “A win would have represented another important step towards qualification. Now we need to fight and stay alert. We struggled to create goalscoring chances and it was a tough, physical game, just as we knew it would be.”
