Leonardo Bonucci says the Bianconeri will have to be at the races when they pit their wits against an in-form Borussia Monchengladbach outfit in tomorrow night’s Champions League Matchday 4.

Wins against Manchester City and Sevilla were offset by a home draw when the two sides last met a little under a fortnight ago and the Germans domestic resurgence, which has seen them win six Bundesliga games on the bounce, means that Juventus will require a top-rate performance if they are to maintain pole position in the race for this season’s knockout stages.

Previewing the game in Germany, the defender began: “The change in management has shaken things up. Schubert’s arrival has also seen them steady the ship at the back. We can’t allow them space in which to play because their pacey strikers can hurt us.”

Aiding the Bianconeri in their quest to claim an important result will be Saturday’s morale-boosting victory over local rivals Torino, in which the team’s battling qualities were firmly out in force.

“We’ve shown that if we give 110 per cent we’ll claim important results. The motivational aspect is crucial: sacrificing ourselves, fighting for every ball and staying compact and accurate in both phases of play. These have been the secrets behind our success in previous seasons and we need to keep putting them into practice.”
