Two testing away ties in the space of five days faced the Bianconeri at the start of the week. By the end of it, they are off to a flying start in the Champions League and up and running domestically following this afternoon’s 2-0 win at Genoa.

Speaking to Sky after his side’s first league win of the season, Giorgio Chiellini believes that one result must not be viewed in isolation from the other: back-to-back wins away from home have rekindled the Bianconeri’s spirit.

He began: “Before Tuesday, we knew that a good start in the Champions League would get us going and rekindle that spark that was lacking in our first three league games.

“We’ve come to what is a very difficult place to play against a typically fired-up Genoa side and left with an important three points. We read the game well and grew into it after the first goal.”

Chiellini, efficient in distributing the ball from the back, completing 88 per cent of his passes and as solid as ever defensively, symbolised the tenacious streak and will to win that has characterised past Juventus sides and that will surely see them recover their slow start to the season.

He added: “This win will add to our growing confidence and we’ll see where we are come May. Inter lead the way at the moment but the league doesn’t finish in September. That tenacious streak has never left this side, it’s still there for all to see.”

Looking ahead to his team’s next Serie A appointment, at home to bottom club Frosinone, the defender stressed the importance of carrying forward the positivity from consecutive wins on the road and ensuring that they show the same focus and composure at Juventus Stadium on Wednesday night.

“We’ll take each game as it comes and approach Frosinone with the same calmness that we demonstrated today. After this week we have plenty of belief going forward for the rest of the campaign.”
