It might have been the strike to have sealed an all-important point and top spot in Group D, but Paulo Dybala’s stinging shot on 82 minutes cannoned off the crossbar to the disbelief of all wearing black and white.

Speaking to the cameras shortly after his side’s 1-0 reverse in Sevilla, Dybala began: “I thought 100 times about that shot, it could have been the goal which assured us of first place. We had other chances to score, but the ball just did not want to go in for us tonight.”

One positive from tonight’s match was the positive chemistry and link-up play between Dybala and Alvaro Morata, both leading the line together for the sixth time this season.

The Spaniard too had chances to score at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, most notably in the first half when played in by Dybala, only to prod wide of the mark when well positioned.

La Joya, however, does not have any doubts that his strike partner will get back amongst the goals in the not-too distant future.

Wrapping up the interview, he said: “Alvaro is a top striker, he works extremely hard and he’ll start finding the target again sooner rather than later.

“When he’s playing, I’m able to occupy space in deeper positions, while with Mario Mandzukic there are more layoffs and one-twos.”
