It is 92 years to the day that Edoardo Agnelli, the grandfather of current Juventus president Andrea Agnelli, ascended to the presidency of the Turin club.

He would go on to be the first of four Agnelli men to do so and his 12 years overseeing the Bianconeri would be one of the most successful eras not only in the history of Juventus but also the history of Italian football as a whole.

The famous Quinquennio side that dominated Italian football in the 1930s, winning five consecutive Scudetto titles in as many as years between 1931 and 1935, was the crown jewel of Edoardo’s presidency.

Featuring players such as Raimundo Orsi, Luis Monti and Felice Borel, Juve completed a feat never since repeated and formed the core of the Italian national side that won the World Cup on home turf in 1934

Destined and groomed to be the heir to the Agnelli FIAT empire where he would be named honorary president, Edoardo’s passion for football ensured that it would be at Juventus where he would make his name and forge his legacy. Under his guidance, the Bianconeri became the first side in Italy to turn professional in 1923.

Well-travelled, cultured and devoted to his work, Agnelli and Juventus were a match made in heaven as he laid the foundations to allow the Old Lady to grow into one of the powerhouses of European football.

It was the Genoa born industrialist’s vision, innovation and commitment to Juventus that gave the club the impetus to conquer the Italian game and establish the Bianconeri as the most decorated team in the country’s history.
