Flavio Emoli passed away today, a mainstay from the successful Juventus side of the late 1950s and early 1960s, winning three Scudetto titles and two Coppa Italias in the process.

An extremely talented, determined player, Emoli was a true professional who played for eight successful seasons with his boyhood club, rising through the youth academy ranks before making his debut on 25 September 1955.

Renowned for his physical prowess and strength of character, he immediately established himself as a key player for the Old Lady, as he brought great dynamism to the midfield and was highly adept at turning defence into attack.

After helping the Bianconeri to a trio of league titles (1958, 1960 and 1961) and two consecutive Coppa Italias (1959 and 1960), he would demonstrate yet again just what a team player he was when, at the age of 28, his coach at the time Paul Amaral deployed Emoli as a wing-back.

He applied himself brilliantly and quickly excelled in the new role, in what was testament to his hard-working and modest nature – important human values that, as Hurrà Juventus’ February 1963 edition pointed out, were becoming increasingly rare at a time in which the era of the celebrity footballer was coming to the fore.

Everyone associated with Juventus Football Club sends their heartfelt condolences to his family at this sad time.
