On 28 July 1927 in Lugo di Romagna, a future postwar Juventus hero was born. His name, Ermes Muccinelli. Arriving from Biellese in 1945 as an 18-year-old, the flying winger would go on to represent Juventus 241 times, netting 69 strikes, a formidable figure for a right-sided forward.

A fine dribbler, possessing a gilded first touch and excellent movement off the ball, Ermes is fondly remembered by all Juventini of a certain age for his 11 successful seasons in the famous black and white jersey.

Combative and tenacious for a man of his size, Muccinelli partnered Giampiero Boniperti and John Hansen in an attacking trio that yielded two league titles in 1949/50 and 1951/52.

The diminutive wide man’s consistently entertaining performances for the Turin side earned him three consecutive World Cup appearances for the Azzurri in Rio de Janeiro, Bern and Stockholm, a feat that only an elite group of players has achieved since.

Ermes would return to Juve in 1959 for 15 more appearances towards the end of his career but his 11-year spell earlier in the decade had already cemented his place in the Juventus history books.
