Sunday’s 2-0 win over Genoa at the Marassi will have given Juve fans plenty of reasons to be optimistic; a first victory of the league season, a first clean sheet and a solid away performance at a ground renowned for sending its visitors away empty-handed.

What they may have also enjoyed was the eye-catching cameo of Roberto Pereyra whose entrance from the bench and fine assist for the opening goal set the Bianconeri well on their way to securing an important three points in Liguria.

Answering Sky Sport Italia’s questions today, the Argentine said he was pleased with his contribution as a first-half substitute following the injury of Alvaro Morata, while adding that whether starting from the bench or not, no-one is taking their place in Juve’s new-look side for granted.

He began:* “*Even if you don’t start a game you have to be ready when called upon. Luckily I was able to really influence the game when I came off the bench on Sunday.

"The manager asked me to pick up where Alvaro had left off and I think I did a good job. No-one is guaranteed a spot in this team and everyone knows that they have to work hard to cement their place in the side.”

While Pereyra will hope his positive impact caught the eye of his manager, the Argentine was keen to underline the most important aspect from yesterday’s encounter: to keep moving onwards and upwards.

“I was ready to play a part right from kick-off even if I wasn’t in the starting XI. But the important thing to take from yesterday was the three points and the fact that we took another good step forwards in gelling as a team.”

As for the fate of this season’s Scudetto, El Tucumano knows that there is still a lot of football to be played.

He concluded: "Inter have started well and that’s why they’re top after four games. But as we all know the season has just started and we’ll give everything as a team to make sure we start climbing the table.”
