Pogba: “We’re playing as team”

Fresh from his match-winning display at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Paul Pogba was quick to praise the team effort behind Sunday’s victory against a side that got the better of the Bianconeri last year.

And after undergoing wholsale changes to personnel in the summer, the 22-year-old stressed that his companions were forming a strong collective unit in their bid to adjust to the recent departures of Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal.

The Frenchman also acknowledged how he now had a greater responsibility at the club and underlined his desire to continue improving as a player.

Speaking to Sky Sport, he began: “With Carlos, Arturo and Andrea we could rely on individual moments of brilliance. Now we play more as a team.

“Taking on the number 10 is to follow in the footsteps of Michel Platini and several other Juventus greats. It’s very important that I honour the shirt on the pitch, the club has shown a lot of faith in me.

“I need to keep working on my game, both in terms of build-up play and my runs off the ball. I need to put in strong performances both for the benefit of myself and that of the side.”

When asked about the significance of picking up a first Serie A win of the season, Pogba stressed that he and his team-mates still had plenty of work to make the campaign a successful one.

And he added that the side, currently trailing league-leaders Inter by eight points, would focus fully on themselves as they bid to retain their Scudetto crown for a fifth consecutive year.

He concluded: “We haven’t achieved anything yet. Until today we had just one point in the table, now we’ve four. We’re happy with the win, but we need to keep picking up results.

“We’re just concentrating on ourselves right now. There’s a long way to go between now and May.”
