Juventus’ Primavera could not quite complete what would have been a remarkable comeback, as they ultimately fell to a 3-2 defeat away to Borussia Monchengladbach in their Youth League encounter on Tuesday afternoon.

Trailing 3-0 in the 90th minute, Fabio Grosso’s men pulled back two goals in injury time to set up a frantic finale, but they would overall pay the price of conceding three strikes inside the opening 51 minutes.

Borussia took just three minutes to get their noses in front, Ndenge converting from the spot, but Juve responded well to going behind, as Favilli and Clemenza both came close to an equaliser.

On 35 minutes, however, they were dealt another setback when Ndenge latched onto Rizzo’s through ball to double both his personal and team’s tally on the afternoon.

Any chances of gaining a positive result from the encounter would virtually vanish only six minutes after the interval when Holtby added a third for the hosts.

But the visitors did not let their heads drop and threatened to pull off a famous fightback courtesy of goals by Cassata and Kastanos, but there would be no time left for what long seemed an irretrievable situation.

Speaking after the final whistle, Grosso said: “We went two goals down in a first half which saw us play very well and come close to scoring on several occasions. This gave us all the belief of being able to overturn the scoreline after the break.

“Unfortunately the result leaves us with a mountain to climb in terms of qualifying from the group. We need to make fewer mistakes and be more clinical in front of goal, but I’m certain that we can bounce back quickly.”

The Primavera return to domestic action on Sunday morning when they entertain second-placed Sassuolo in Vinovo.
