Juventus’ Primavera were beaten 1-0 by Sevilla’s Under 19s on Matchday Two in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon at the Silvio Piola stadium in Vercelli, Piedmont.

Fabio Grosso’s men came into the match in good form and took the game to their opponents in a bright first 20 minutes, in which they launched a number of attacks down the left flank, albeit without posing any real danger to the Spaniards.

In the 24th minute, the Andalusians took the lead with their very first attack, Maryan Shved turning in a cross from the left to beat Mattia Del Favero from close-range.

From the moment of conceding the opener, the Bianconeri pushed purposefully for an equaliser, but they were unable to find parity.

And Del Favero would be forced into keeping the margin of victory down to just a single goal when he saved a penalty from Curro Sanchez with minutes left before the final whistle.

Speaking after the match, Grosso said: “We had a chance to get a positive result today, it was a good match. We know that we can’t make any more mistakes and we’ll look to get the most we can from all the remaining games. The boys are at least gaining very valuable experience by playing in this tournament.”

Sevilla’s win sees them maintain their 100% record in this season’s Youth League. Manchester City have also taken maximum points from the opening two fixtures in the competition after beating Borussia Monchengladbach, who will be the Primavera’s next opponents in three weeks’ time.
