Simone Zaza says the tireless running of fellow frontmen Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala had a major part to play in his first ever Champions League goal

Simone Zaza believes the contributions of Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala were fundamental factors behind his first Champions League goal in this evening’s 2-0 win over Sevilla.

The forward had only been on the pitch for seven minutes but proved a thorn in the visitors’ defence, capitalising on a loose ball in midfield before running 50 yards to slot the ball under Blanquirrojos keeper Sergio Rico.

And he claims the work done in stretching the visitors’ rearguard by his fellow frontmen was key to creating his late opportunity.

Speaking to the media at Juventus Stadium, Zaza began: “I had just come on and aimed to make the most of my chance. We knew that there would be space for me to exploit and thankfully it went well. My goal is mainly down to the hard work of Alvaro and Paulo, who tired the Sevilla defence out with their running.”

The Italy international, however, refused to bask in the glory of a memorable night, immediately turning his attentions towards this weekend’s visit of Bologna to Juventus Stadium.

“We’ve got an important game to play on Sunday and need to pick up the points we’ve dropped as soon as possible.”
