Giuseppe Marotta has paid tribute to the recently deceased Cesare Maldini, calling his passing a “big loss for football”.

The Bianconeri CEO was in Milan today for the former Italy coach’s funeral and took the opportunity to say a few words on Maldini’s legacy.

Speaking to the media, he said: “It’s a big loss for football. Now it’s a business and has lost the identity it had in those days. I watched him on the TV, games in black and white with Maldini and Scirea. They brought moments of unforgettable excitement. I’ve also regarded Maldini as an example to follow in my managerial role, especially for the serenity he managed to convey.”
