Wednesday’s win against Lazio saw Juventus take one significant step towards an historic fifth straight Scudetto, but Massimiliano Allegri urged his charges to take their momentum into Sunday’s match against Fiorentina, underlining that any celebrations would be kept on hold until Juve had put the retention of their crown beyond any mathematical doubt.

“Napoli could potentially win all of their remaining games and we need four points to be absolutely certain of winning the Scudetto. We need to get three away in Florence where we want to put in a great performance, but it won’t be easy.”

Allegri admitted that his side’s display on Wednesday, in which they blew Lazio away for the majority of the evening, had largely hit the high levels he demands of them.

Nevertheless, the Tuscan tactician stressed that this should form simply the start of an upward curve in their development as a group that looks to build on this season’s successes in years to come.

“Tonight I thought the boys put in a very good display, especially to not concede. They did well to control what was potentially a tricky fixture. Of course, we might have laboured less in attack and in possession at times, but it’s my job to keep raising the players’ games.

“This group came together this season and has improved game by game, so it’s now important to conclude the campaign in the best possible fashion and then to think to the future.”

He concluded: “We’ve grown a lot but we can and we must continue to develop. Hopefully next year we can start better off in the league.”
