Massimiliano Allegri admitted his Juventus side were simply not at the races this afternoon as they fell to a comprehensive 3-1 league reverse away to Genoa.

“We’d prepared for the game in a specific way, but we didn’t play well,” opened the 49-year-old. “They were committing lots of little fouls in the one-on-ones, but we shouldn’t have made so many mistakes.

“On a subconscious level I think we took our foot off the pedal after Tuesday night’s win against Sevilla and that shouldn’t happen.”

Today’s result continues a negative trend of losing games in Serie A directly after playing in the Champions League, as happened earlier in the season at Inter and Milan after matches against Sevilla and Lyon respectively – a fact that had not escaped Allegri, who urged his players to regain their focus for their upcoming fixtures.

“We’ve now lost three domestic games straight after playing in Europe. We achieved a big objective in midweek, but if you fail to produce a good performance and concede goals like today then you have to say that Genoa performed well and we did not.
