A ninth league victory on the trot may have seen Juventus rise to second place in the table, but there was no doubt in Gigi Buffon’s mind as to the club’s ultimate objective this term.
Speaking to journalists at the final whistle, Juve’s captain began: “Today we’re second, but if we look back on past seasons, that’s not the position we’ve been fighting for, so we need to improve.
“We’ve strung together a series of wins that we need to ensure lasts a bit longer.”
Sunday’s latest triumph was arguably the hardest-fought of all so far in 2015/16, as Sampdoria threatened to overturn what had seemed a comfortable two-goal lead at the start of the second half.
“At 2-0 we thought the match was over, but that wasn’t the case. They have plenty of quality and when you face these kinds of teams, there’s always a chance that the game can become wide open again.”
The Bianconeri now turn their attentions to Udinese next Sunday, when they will look to extend their run to ten Serie A successes.
