Gianluigi Buffon, already a Ballon d’Or nominee this year, is in the running for yet another personal accolade, the goalkeeper featuring in the 23-man shortlist for the FIFA Best Men’s Player of 2016 award.
Supporters, fellow players and coaches alike all have until 22 November to cast their votes, with weighting split evenly between the former and the latter, both counting 50 per cent towards the final total.
The top three candidates will go head to head in a final round of voting on 2 December before the world game’s federal body officially announces its player of the year on 9 January at a ceremony in Zurich.
