Shortly after Massimiliano Allegri described Sunday’s meeting between Juventus and Inter at the San Siro as “the first big game in the title race”, it was the turn of the Tuscan’s opposite number, Frank De Boer, to add to the pre-match, Derby d’Italia expectation.

Speaking in Saturday’s press conference, the Dutchman had this to say of his team’s chances tomorrow evening:

“Juventus deserve a great deal of credit for what they achieved in the past few seasons. Everyone knows what a good side they are so it is up to us to ensure we approach the game in the best possible fashion.

“It will be my first Derby d’Italia and I’m sure it will be a fine occasion for all involved; players shouldn’t need geeing up for matches like this, the importance of the fixture speaks for itself. I’ll be asking them simply to give their all, not just tomorrow but also for the games that follow.

“We must be flawless in possession tomorrow because Juve can strike you at any time and from any area of the field. If we can score first and defend well, we have an excellent chance.”
