If any given season can present a number of hurdles along the way, Hernanes identified tonight’s win over Inter as far from easy, but one in which they managed to get the job done.
Asked to describe the feeling of facing his former club, and almost scoring against them within just five minutes, the Brazilian began: “After Tuesday’s match against Bayern, we were really up for tonight.
“It wasn’t easy keeping control of our emotions, we just wanted to do as best as we could in what was clearly a difficult contest.
“I was extremely close to finding the target, but (Samir) Handanovic did very well to get the decisive touch in tipping it onto the crossbar.”
With tonight’s victory ensuring Juve stay top of the pile for at least another week, Hernanes underlined the importance of leading the way at this stage of the season, calling for undivided concentration on their own run-in.
He concluded: “We’re ahead with 11 matches remaining and it’s great to have our destiny in our own hands. The others will have to string together a strong run in order to catch us, but we need to be completely focused on ourselves.”
