A super Sunday for Juventus also manifested itself in wins for the J-Academy sides, not least the Primavera who kept hold of top spot in the league after winning 2-0 away to Trapani.

Fabio Grosso’s charges knew that they could not afford any slip-up in Sicily, with Virtus Entella staying hot on their heels in second place, and they put the points all but beyond doubt inside the first half, courtesy of strikes by Alessio Di Massimo, a January signing from Sant’Omero, and Spanish right-back Pol Lirola.

The visitors never looked likely to surrender their lead after the interval, as they eased to a ninth consecutive league victory ahead of their all-important encounter at home to Virtus Entella next Saturday.

Shifting the focus to events in Tuscany, Juve’s Under 17s also made sure of maintaining first place in their own league table, as they returned to Turin from Empoli with a hard-fought 1-0 win.

The Azzurri made life difficult for Felice Tufano’s young guns during a first half in which visiting keeper Leonardo Loria even saved a penalty.

After the break, however, the Bianconeri provided a greater attacking threat and after 58 minutes, Moise Bioty Kean netted the winning goal to keep his team top of the tree ahead of next Sunday’s visit of Trapani in Vinovo.
