First-half goals by Paulo Dybala and Medhi Benatia help the Bianconeri to a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday

Juventus recorded their first victory in this year’s International Champions Cup in Melbourne after getting the better of Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 scoreline on Tuesday evening.

The Bianconeri got their noses in front within just six minutes when a defensive mix-up allowed Roberto Pereyra to race towards goal and offload neatly into the path of Paulo Dybala, who made no mistake with his lethal left foot from 12 yards out.

La Joya had his tail well and truly up and tested Spurs stopper Michel Vorm with a venomous drive from the edge of the area on 13 minutes.

Just 60 seconds later, Juve found themselves two goals to the good when the Londoners failed to clear their lines and Miralem Pjanic crossed for Medhi Benatia to plant a cute, looping header into the far corner – the Moroccan’s maiden strike for the club since joining on loan from Bayern Munich.

Fellow summer signing Pjanic would go on to set up a chance also for Dybala later in the half, but the Argentine saw his shot blocked, as the Bianconeri, who were making their debut in the brand new blue adidas away shirt, entered the interval in complete control.

In a quiet start to the second period, Hernanes played Pjanic in on goal with a delightful through ball, but the Bosnian playmaker could not keep his effort below the crossbar.

Tottenham were beginning to take heart from an improved performance on their part and they ended up halving the deficit when Erik Lamela slid home from the edge of the box after 67 minutes.

The Argentine would then force Neto into a smart reflex save before the Brazilian denied Shayon Harrison at the death, as the Bianconeri successfully held on to a hard-fought win which stands them in good stead for the remainder of the Juventus Jeep Tour 2016.

Their next opponents will be South China, who they face in Hong Kong on 30 July.
