Moments after Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri took to the hot seat in Vinovo to discuss Sunday afternoon’s Serie A encounter with Chievo today, it was the turn of his Gialloblu counterpart Rolando Maran to share his pre-match thoughts with the media.

While Allegri discussed the temporary absences of the likes of Mario Mandzukic and Kwadwo Asamoah, Maran reflected on what has been a “turbulent” week for the Verona-based outfit due in part to the permanent departure of leading scorer Alberto Paloschi, whose transfer to Swansea was confirmed this weekend.

Paloschi’s move to the Premier League, along with a handful of other first-team players set to skip Sunday’s encounter through illness, would be more enough to derail any club’s preparations for hosting a side on an 11-match winning run yet the experienced coach still remains positive of a strong showing from the hosts tomorrow lunchtime.

In order to do so, the 52-year-old calls for commitment, concentration and the same tenacity from his side that that saw them earn an impressive away point at Juventus Stadium earlier in the season.

From team selection and Juve’s strong points to what he expects from his charges tomorrow, here is a selection of Maran’s key quotes from today’s press conference:

Departures and team selection

“We must not let Alberto’s departure get to us too much. The transfer market is part and parcel of the game. We wish him the best of luck on his new adventure but our own season must go on regardless.

“Alessandro Gamberini, Riccardo Meggiorini, Perparim Hetemaj, Simone Pepe and Mariano Izco are also set to miss out. Besides them, the rest of the squad is fit and raring to go.

“I have number of things to consider before piecing together my starting XI particularly given the extraordinary circumstances of this week.”

Brilliant Bianconeri

“Juve have everything: not only are they very competent on the ball but they are also very tough to face from a physical point of view. We need to match them as best we can in these departments if we are to stretch them and make our own mark on the game.

“They are in magnificent form and the stats don’t lie. They have swept everyone aside relentlessly in the last few months and that tells you something about their quality and mentality. They are dangerous all over the field.”

Toppling Juventus

“As for us, we know that we will have to produce one of our greatest performances of the season and outwork and outrun them; that is the only way teams can pull out unexpected results. The boys know the challenge ahead of them and that we need must not let the match pass us by.”
