The Bianconeri’s Australian adventure began in earnest this morning when they assembled for a workout at the city’s Lakeside Stadium, their training base for this summer’s stay Down Under.

While “summer” is the word applied for the current time of year in Europe, here it is very much winter, with temperatures of 13 degrees and cloudy skies greeting Massimiliano Allegri’s men when they arrived at 09.45 local time.

Before taking to the training pitch, Juventus, flanked by last season’s Scudetto and Coppa Italia trophies, were greeted by Victoria’s Minister of Sport and Tourism, John Eren, and Marco Maria Cerbo, Italy’s Consulate General in Melbourne.

“We’re pleased to have Juventus, one of Europe’s most successful teams, here with us in Melbourne,” said Eren. “The International Champions Cup will be broadcast in over 150 countries and we’re proud of the fact that it’s being played here in our city. It will put us in the spotlight.”

Fitness was very much first on the agenda for the Italian champions, who underwent a long stretching session before running through a series of intervals.

The ball came out for Juventus' afternoon workout, as the Bianconeri knuckled down for a series of drills based on possession before playing in a warm-up friendly under the Lakeside Stadium floodlights.

Allegri and company will return to the arena tomorrow morning for the first of another two training sessions scheduled for Wednesday.
