As ever, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was able to take the positives from his team’s 0-0 draw with Sevilla on Champions League opening night.

Though naturally disappointed with the scoreline, the Tuscan was quick to point out that perhaps on another day, he would have been looking back on a victory as he met the media after the game, which on the balance of play the Bianconeri just about deserved.

Allegri’s key post-match quotes from Juventus Stadium are as follows:

Game of two halves

“We struggled to make any headway before the interval but we improved significantly as the match went on and arguably we should have won it with the chances we made. All that was missing the final touch.”

Qualification still on course

“There are no easy ties in the Champions League so we must not be disheartened. We’re disappointed not to have got the three points but we still have plenty of time to recover and of course to reach the last 16.”

Finer details

“For me we could have been better in the way we moved the ball and often the pass to split the defence was missing. I’m not too concerned, I’m confident we’ll improve in the necessary areas in time.

“I put Pjaca on because I was looking for someone to drive at the defence and take men out of the game instead of further congesting the central areas of the field. Asamoah read the game well and Pjanic demonstrated his qualities on the ball when he came off the bench.”
