Two Bianconeri, two games, two goals was the story of Sunday’s international action.
First up, Stephan Lichtsteiner scored the second goal of Switzerland’s 2-0 win at home to the Faroe Islands.
The Swiss captain’s 83rd-minute strike, a close-range header from Ricardo Rodriguez’s cross, followed Eren Derdiyok’s opener for the hosts, who top their group having taken maximum points from their first four World Cup qualifiers.
Later in the evening, it would be Miralem Pjanic’s turn to find the target. The midfielder replicated his free-kick magic of the previous weekend in Juve’s victory over Chievo to hit the opener in Bosnia’s 1-1 draw in Greece.
Pjanic’s set-piece special in the first half had looked likely to hand his team an invaluable away victory, but Giorgos Tzavelas’ 95th-minute equaliser ensured the hosts, who sit in second place, maintain a three-point advantage over third-placed Bosnia.
