Federico Bernardeschi says Juve are hungry for more silverware after they kicked off their 2017/18 Coppa Italia campaign with a 2-0 defeat of Genoa.

The 23-year-old played his part in the win with a positive display – particularly in the opening period.

“I started the game well but then I tired a little as it wore on, partly because I'd taken a few knocks,” he admitted.

“The main thing was winning and showing what we're about. I'm happy because the Coppa Italia is important to us and we want to go all the way.”

The youngster added that he understands regular first-team football can be hard to come by at a club of Juventus' stature.

“I'm here to work. I know the gaffer believes in me and whenever I get the nod I'm ready – that's how it should be.

“We have a fantastic squad here and we want to win the lot. It's normal that with so many top players at the club a youngster like myself has to edge his way into the side slowly. You also have to get used to being at the club and what it means to play for this team.”

As for his favourite position: “I just like playing – the position doesn't matter to me. Wherever I'm needed is fine. Obviously I do enjoy it when I can play a bit closer to goal but all that matters is we achieve our targets.

“When you're not playing regularly you need to keep your fitness levels high by working hard in training and your head needs to be right too – you have to be determined and focused to keep improving as a player.”
