Giorgio Chiellini was in no mood for playing down a huge win by what he described as a "special team" at the Stade Louis II on Wednesday night.

After helping the Bianconeri record yet another clean sheet on European soil, he declared: "It's a massive result, there's no denying it. We'd have taken your arm off if you'd offered us a 2-0 away win before the game.

"It's certainly a big step towards Cardiff but there's another 90 minutes to go yet. Fortunately we'll be playing at our place and I'm sure we'll play the same way as we did tonight."

The Bianconeri's famed BBC backline earned yet more plaudits after another typically stingy display but Giorgio was keen for the merit to be shared around.

"This is a special team and the defence is only a part of it," he insisted.

"The lads up top were exceptional tonight. We played well at the back but we had Gigi [Buffon] to thank too because when you're up against players this good you always end up conceding a few chances.

"Andrea [Barzagli] was immense while Dani [Alves] and Gonzalo [Higuain] did brilliantly to create the goals."

Before Juve can attempt to secure their place in the final at Juventus Stadium next week, there's the small matter of a Turin derby on Saturday – with the possibility of sewing up the Scudetto.

"Yes, we have a huge week coming up," the 32-year-old concluded, "but we head into it with bundles of energy and enthusiasm."
