Following on from the successes of Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Barzagli and Leonardo Bonucci’s Italy and Mario Mandzukic’s Croatia on Friday night, there was to be further positive news for Juventus’ international representatives on Saturday as Miralem Pjanic and Stephan Lichtsteiner took the field for their respective nations in World Cup qualifying.

In Geneva, a Josip Drmic goal was just about enough to squeeze Switzerland past Latvia, a result which sees the Alpine nation retain their grip of top stop in Group B where they sit three points clear of European champions Portugal. Lichtsteiner played the full 90 minutes as captain.

The goals flowed more freely in Zenica meanwhile where Bosnia and Herzegovina put five past bottom side Gibraltar with the midfield craft of Juve’s Pjanic required for just short of an hour. Bosnia now sit in third in Group H one point behind Greece and three behind leaders Belgium.

Sami Khedira will fly the black and white flag alone this evening as his Germany team face Azerbaijan at 18.00 CEST.
