Top of the tree for Christmas, another special scoring show from Gonzalo Higuain, a huge win to bring up 100 Serie A points for the calendar year...

Festive cheer was certainly in the air at Juventus Stadium for the visit of Roma on 17 December.

On paper, it was one of the Bianconeri's most important fixtures of the campaign. With 16 games played, Luciano Spalletti's Roma had launched a strong title assault in the first half of the season, sitting just four points behind Juve going into the game.

In reality, it took just one man and one moment to decide a result that would go along way to handing the Old Lady a sixth consecutive Scudetto crown.

Predictably, the man in question was Gonzalo Higuain. After netting against Dinamo Zagreb and a thrilling brace in the Derby della Mole the previous week, Higuain struck one of the goals of the season to damage Roma's title chances beyond repair.

Collecting the ball on the edge of the box, the number 9 bustled through two limp challenges from Daniele de Rossi and Kostas Manolas, steadied himself and smashed a superb left-footed shot past Wojciech Szczesny via the post.

The Giallorossi threatened a comeback but a defence marshalled expertly by Daniele Rugani and Giorgio Chiellini ensured that once again, there would be a black and white Christmas in Italy.
