Daniele Rugani helped Italy to a winning start at the UEFA U21 European Championships last night, playing the full 90 minutes in his team's 2-0 victory over Denmark in Krakow.

Rugani, partnered by Juve's January signing Mattia Caldara in central defence, demonstrated of all his usual poise, calm and composure as the Italians picked up a crucial opening win in Poland.

Goals from Sassuolo's Lorenzo Pellegrini and Atalanta's Andrea Petagna were enough to make the Azzurri early frontrunners in Group C.

Germany, winners themselves against Czech Republic, are next up for Rugani and co. on Wednesday 21 August.
