In their very first UEFA Women’s Champions League match, Juventus Women showed every ounce of Fino Alla Fine spirit as they came from behind to rescue a draw against Brondby on Wednesday.

It was a night to remember in particular for Barbara Bonansea, who scored both of the Bianconere’s goals in Novara. Both strikes, it must be said, were right from the top drawer as well.

The forward created history by scoring her side's first goal in the competition, when she arrowed an unstoppable, low shot into the bottom corner to put Juventus Women in front just moments before half-time.

It gave the hosts a deserved lead after Valentina Cernoia and Cristiana Girelli both had opposition keeper, Katrine Abel, on her toes with powerful efforts from distance.

Meanwhile, down the other end of the pitch, Laura Giuliani made a superb save to knock Mille Gejl’s bullet header onto the crossbar.

The visitors grew in the second half and drew themselves on level terms on the hour-mark, when Nicoline Sorensen nodded home from Sofie Svava’s left-wing cross.

The Danish outfit then took the lead on 71 minutes, this time Sorensen turning provider from the right flank for Gejl to turn into the net and leave Rita Guarino’s team with an uphill battle to climb.

However, the Bianconere did not let their heads drop as they frequently surged forwards for an equaliser. With six minutes of regulation time left on the clock, Bonansea bulldozed her way through Brondby’s backline and fired another sweet strike past a helpless Abel.

The draw was the least that Juventus Women’s efforts deserved after a performance that should give them considerable confidence going into the return leg in Copenhagen on 26 September.
