The winger returns to first-team action after a four-month layoff: “We came up against an inspired Marchetti, who made several top drawer saves”
Simone Pepe was afforded a rapturous reception on his return to first-team action following four months on the sidelines.
The popular winger, who recently became a father to daughter Rebecca, had further cause for celebration after making his first competitive appearance of the campaign in tonight’s clash with Lazio at Juventus Stadium.
Speaking after the final whistle, Pepe said: “They’ve been four long months and I’d like to thank the fans who have remained close to me throughout this period. I’m happy to be back, but a little less about the result.
“We came up against an inspired Marchetti, who made several top drawer saves. The one from Quagliarella’s attempt was almost miraculous.
“ Lazio didn’t threaten our goal, so we’ll take heart from our performance, knowing that we need to push on even further against Chelsea. We’re aware that we’ll face the defending European champions, but Juventus are capable of giving any team a hard time.”
