Alessio: “We want to go all the way”

Meeting the media in place of Antonio Conte, the assistant manager confirms the Bianconeri’s hunger for silverware after earning a Europa League quarter-final place tonight: “We’re out to win every competition we’re involved in”

Juventus assistant manager Angelo Alessio has underlined the club’s desire to end this season’s Europa League run by lifting the trophy at Juventus Stadium in May.

After Antonio Conte was forced to skip his media duties due to losing his voice in the excitement of this evening’s crucial 1-0 win over Fiorentina, it was his right-hand man Alessio who was left to reflect on a strong display against a talented Viola outfit.

Speaking to reporters after the victory in Florence, the 48-year-old began: “We performed well from start to finish and are very pleased with the performance. This game was talked up a great deal.

“People say that the Europa League isn’t of great interest to us and we find that slightly irritating: we want to go all the way in every competition.”

Alessio, who won the UEFA Cup as a Bianconeri player in 1990, believes the team’s meticulous preparations proved key in counteracting any potential tactical tricks that opposite number Vincenzo Montella had up his sleeve.

He added: “We were prepared for any type of system Montella elected to deploy, such as using Cuadrado so deep. We were up against it for the first 10 to 15 minutes or so but then created several chances of our own. Eventually, the sending off and free-kick saw us through.”
