The goalkeeper happy with a clean sheet at a difficult venue: “Fiorentina did well and it’s a good point for us”
Gigi Buffon expressed his satisfaction at emerging from the Artemio Franchi with a useful point.
The Bianconeri stood tall on a difficult evening to keep Vincenzo Montella’s high-flying Viola outfit at bay and stretch their unbeaten championship run to 44 games.
Reflecting on events in Florence, Buffon said: “We were tired, but no more so than Fiorentina, given that they also played at the weekend. They did very well. You can see that they’ve got a capable manager and a system of play they believe in. It was a good point for us.”
The 34-year-old then looked ahead to Saturday’s Serie A encounter with Roma before concluding with praise for the impact of the travelling Bianconeri faithful.
“We’ll be playing at home and the atmosphere will be in our favour. However, it was also good here. The locals responded well, there were also many of our fans here who, as usual, got behind the team and made themselves heard. Of course, there’s a rivalry, but that’s also the added spice behind this particular game.”
