Arturo Vidal is all smiles after bagging three against FC Copenhagen: “It’s the first treble of my career and I’m taking this ball home with me”
Arturo Vidal could barely conceal his joy after firing the Bianconeri back into contention for this year’s Champions League knockout stages with a confidently-struck treble in tonight’s 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen.
The Chilean becomes the third Juventus player to net a treble in Europe’s elite club competition, following in the illustrious footsteps of Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Del Piero.
Speaking after the game, the midfielder expressed his delight at registering the first hat-trick of his career before offering an explanation behind his decision to celebrate with a thumb in his mouth.
The 26-year-old began: “It’s the first time I’ve scored three goals in a game and I’m taking this ball home with me. The celebration? I’ve got a daughter on the way and I’m over the moon.
“I love taking to the field wearing the black and white stripes and I always look to help out my team-mates whilst giving my all.”
Vidal then elaborated on the thought process behind his second penalty of the night before concluding by expressing his relief at avoiding a yellow card that would have kept him out of December’s crunch final Group B tie with Galatasaray.
“I looked at the goalkeeper and saw him move towards the left, so I chose to slot it in the other direction. I was one booking away from a ban and was a little fearful because the Galatasaray clash will be a really important game for us. But thankfully all went well and we’ve come away with the three points.”
