The striker speaks after Juve’s 4-1 win over Roma: “It was a real weight off my shoulders. I’m happy both on a personal level and for the team itself”
Alessandro Matri expressed his relief at getting back on the scoresheet for the first time in almost eight months. The striker, who was last season’s top scorer with ten goals, hit the Bianconeri’s third in a resounding 4-1 success over Roma and played his part in a fine team performance.
Speaking to reporters, Matri said: “It was a real weight off my shoulders as I hadn’t scored since February. I’m happy both on a personal level and for the team itself.
“We played a great game. It was similar to last year’s encounter. We did well to immediately break the deadlock and then instantly put the game to bed.”
With another difficult test passed with flying colours, Juve’s attentions will now turn to the Champions League and Tuesday’s visit of Shakhtar.
“Today’s victory was also precious for morale. Now we’ve got another important test ahead of us, which we’ll need to face with the same spirit shown today.
“Our target in the Champions League, given that it’s the first time many of us have played in the competition, is to get through the group stages.”
