The matchwinner comments on Sunday’s victory in Siena: “It’s important to end this heavy run of fixtures with a victory”
Claudio Marchisio was delighted after his late goal toppled a spirited Siena side at the Artemio Franchi.
The midfielder, who found the target on ten occasions in last season’s Scudetto-winning campaign, was forced to wait until the seventh championship fixture to get off the mark this time around.
But he insists the victory - which pushes Juventus three points ahead of Napoli at the top of Serie A - is what matters the most.
Reflecting on this afternoon’s events, Marchisio said: “Obtaining the three points is more important than scoring as far as I’m concerned. It certainly wasn’t an easy afternoon. Siena gave us great difficulty, they pressed and were organised in defence from the very off. We managed to break the deadlock, only for them to find an equaliser. Then, we upped the ante in the second half and came away with all three points.”
The 26-year-old continued: “It’s important to win games like this afternoon’s encounter. Smaller sides are always very organised and Siena stuck to their game plan. It’s good we’ve managed to end this heavy run of fixtures with a victory. If we had to provide an assessment of this recent spell, it would be very positive.”
