Coppa Italia pits Juve against Roma once again

The Giallorossi beat Sampdoria 1-0 in the last 16 of the cup to set up a quarter-final clash with Juventus after their recent Serie A meeting on 5 January

After a 3-0 win against Roma in Serie A just five days ago, Juventus are to lock horns with their nearest league challengers once again in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia after a Vasilis Torosidis goal saw the Giallorossi edge a 1-0 win over Sampdoria last night in the last 16.

It’s round two of a battle that could hardly have been more convincingly won the first time around: Antonio Conte’s men were calm and collected despite the significance of the occasion, with Arturo Vidal, Leonardo Bonucci and Mirko Vucinic striking to extend the Bianconeri’s lead at the top of the league table to eight points.

And now the duel with Rudi Garcia’s side will continue on Tuesday 21 January, though it’s yet to be decided where.

It all depends on the outcome of Lazio v Parma and Napoli v Atalanta, taking place on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 January respectively. Roma have a higher coefficient than Juve in the draw, so are entitled to play at home; a right they will obviously still hold if Parma qualify for the quarter-finals, but which Lazio – the title holders - will inherit if the Biancocelesti find themselves in the quarter-finals with Atalanta.

In that case, Juventus will play Roma in Turin. But if Napoli win, their higher coefficient will mean Lazio will have to play at the Stadio San Paolo and the Bianconeri will instead travel to take on the Giallorossi at the Stadio Olimpico.
