Juve and Real announce charity fundraiser

President Agnelli in Madrid to confirm the club’s participation in a charity fixture to be contested between Juventus and Real Madrid legends on 9 June 2013

Legends of Juventus and Real Madrid will roll back the years in a prestigious charity fixture to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday 9 June.

The two European giants have confirmed their participation in the 'Corazon Classic Match 2013 Veracruz', an annual friendly encounter organised by the Real Madrid Foundation.

This year’s fundraiser is geared towards the Spanish Red Cross ‘Exito Escolar’ project, an initiative which seeks to offer study grants to underprivileged students.

And the eyes of the world will be glued to the Bernabeu as Juventus, featuring the likes of Pavel Nedved and Edgar Davids, take to the field to recreate one of the classic all-time European contests in front of a capacity 80,000 crowd.

Andrea Agnelli - flanked by Giuseppe Marotta, Pavel Nedved and Gianluca Pessotto - joined Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in unveiling the event at this afternoon’s press conference in the Spanish capital.

Addressing the media, Agnelli said: “It’s an honour and a pleasure to participate in this game. I immediately realised its importance when I saw Pavel and Gianluca’s eyes light up at the idea of returning to the Bernabeu.

“There’ll be a real party atmosphere at the stadium. Juventus is extremely socially aware as a club and it’s an important cause. Soon we will also be unveiling a project involving the players who have been part of our history.”

Nedved added:  “I’m very happy to participate in such an important charity project and to be back here alongside great champions. I remember the Bernabeu well and the atmosphere on offer…”

The Bianconeri delegation were treated to a warm welcome from their Spanish counterparts and began the day by visiting Real Madrid’s state of the art Valdebebas training complex, where they were greeted by coach José Mourinho.
