Jorge Jesus’ side overturn a first leg deficit with yesterday’s 3-1 home win over Porto, keeping them on course for a domestic treble
Benfica battled back from a 1-0 first leg deficit to secure their place in the Portuguese Cup final with last night’s 3-1 home win over historic rivals Porto.
A fractious affair sprang into life when Eduardo Salvio's far post header drew the hosts level on aggregate on 16 minutes, only for Silvestre Varela to swing the tie back into Porto’s favour with a solo effort seven minutes into the restart.
Enzo Perez then drew Benfica level from the spot on the hour mark before a superb strike from Andre Gomes, ten minutes from time, set up a domestic final against Rio Ave.
League wise, Jorge Jesus’ men boast a seven-point advantage over nearest rivals Sporting Lisbon and could potentially win the championship with victory over Olhanense on Sunday.
