Chiellini: “Back on track”

The 29-year-old reflects on the Bianconeri’s second successive defensive shutout following tonight’s 4-0 triumph over Catania: “It was important to keep a clean sheet tonight, it shows we’re on the right track”

Giorgio Chiellini believes the Bianconeri are defensively back on the right track after recording consecutive wins and clean sheets against Genoa and Catania.

The defender, whose two stunning tackles either side of half-time helped keep Gigi Buffon’s goal unviolated, put in a commanding performance in tonight’s 4-0 triumph over the Rossazzurri, but pointed out it wasn’t all plain sailing following early scares in both halves.

Speaking after the final whistle, 29-year-old remarked: “It was a different start for us compared to the way we began Sunday’s game. We got into too much difficulty in the opening stages of both halves, but managed to make the most of the opportunities that came our way.

“It was important to keep a clean sheet tonight, something that shows we’re on the right track. It’s too early to speak about the league table at present, we’d prefer to think about Saturday’s clash with Parma. It’s a fundamental game as far as we’re concerned.”
