Claudio Gentile, a rock in the Bianconeri defence from 1973-1984, turns 60 today
Born in Libya to Sicilian parents, Claudio Gentile’s move to Italy at the age of eight began the story of a famous footballing career on the peninsula, the most glorious moments of which were lived in the black and white stripes of Juventus.
In eleven seasons with the Bianconeri, his 415 appearances brought an impressive array of titles: a Cup Winners’ Cup, a UEFA Cup, two Coppa Italia trophies and a total of six Scudetto wins.
And he also became an icon of the Italian national side when he man-marked the likes of Diego Maradona and Zico in the victorious Spain ’82 World Cup campaign with an efficiency that few others have managed.
All associated with Juventus Football Club wish Claudio many happy returns on his 60th birthday.
