Juve’s boss happy with late Vucinic show at Juventus Stadium: “We’ll enjoy this success tonight, we’ll start thinking about Bayern tomorrow”
Antonio Conte spoke of his delight after witnessing Juventus take another fundamental step towards reclaiming their Scudetto crown with Saturday evening’s 2-1 win over Pescara.
After seeing his side kept at bay for 73 minutes courtesy of Ivan Pelizzoli’s goalkeeping masterclass, Conte could have been forgiven for thinking the Bianconeri would have to settle for a point on a frustrating night in Turin.
But Juventus’ famous never-say-die spirit was out in full force as Mirko Vucinic came up trumps in the final stages to stretch the team’s lead at the summit of Serie A to 12 points.
Reflecting on the victory, Conte said: “I’m exhausted and relieved at this success. It seemed as if it wasn’t going to be our day. We dominated, had many efforts on goal, hit the woodwork and saw shots go wide by a whisker. Then they come up with an effort from 40 metres and find the top corner.
“I’m happy with the performance, even if we could have handled the game better after they scored. We’ll take these fundamental points, we know we still haven’t achieved anything, but we’ve taken another step towards our target.
“Vucinic? He didn’t play well at all but scored twice, just think if he had put in a good performance… I hope these goals are a good omen for Bayern. They’ve won the championship with a 20-point advantage and deserve plenty of congratulations for their achievement.
“We paid a heavy price when Robben came on in the first leg and changed a game which, until Kroos left the action, we were handling well. It won’t be easy to try and pull off the comeback, but we’ll give it a go, knowing that we’ll have to take a few risks in the process.”
